Oasis was started by Life Church Lincoln in 2006, when some members of the church began to recognise the need for an over 50′s luncheon club on the Birchwood estate.
In recent times Oasis has amended the name, omitting the “over 50′s” from the title as there have been a growing number of younger people attending!
The local Methodist church hall on Birchwood Avenue (Map) was hired and a team was formed to take on the task. Within a short period of time there was a regular attendance of 20 to 30 older people gathering every Tuesday to share lunch and develop friendships.
Lunch starts at 12 noon with soup being served followed by sandwiches and drinks. During the lunch there is always plenty of chatting and laughter as the team chat with diners. Most weeks there is a thought provoking 3 minute talk from a team member or invited guest speaker followed by prayer.
In an area recognised for its growing population of over 60′s, Oasis is seen to be vital in helping to meet the needs of those who have retired or are no longer working.
In 2009 Oasis was honoured by the Mayor of Lincoln with the Mayors Medal in recognition for its service to the community…
